Shanklin Old Village
This is our favourite village on The Island for a few reasons. The picture below shows three pubs and one Hotel in the picture; Holliers Hotel on the far extreme left, King Harrys Bar on the far extreme right, The Village Inn on the left after Holliers Hotel and one can just see the edge of The Crab Inn in the middle of the picture as the road ascends.
There are gift shops, café's, tea rooms, a chip shop, a small Italian restaurant called Pavarotti's, Thai Restaurant, Vernon Cottage Tea rooms which are licensed, and a bistro not too far and thatched properties are plentiful. The entrance to Shanklin Chine is also here as well as Rylstone Gardens with crazy golf and café. Just beyond Rylstone gardens are nice views of the beach and The Fisherman's Cottage below - sadly beach access down some steep steps has been closed, this was a handy but steep shortcut. It can get very busy here indeed during the day in peak season but gets a little quieter in the evening. Speed limit is 20 m.p.h. here.
Pencil Cottage. The Crab Inn pictured this year, a nice chap is smiling for me in the picture.
