Botanic Gardens, Ventnor Undercliff

As you can see a large proportion of the trees and plants are of the Sub-Tropical type and there's no wonder it can get very hot here.

Echium

These unusual plants grow up to 4m tall and seed in their second year, they are not frost hardy though and survive well here and around the Southern parts of The Island.

Some really big palms in here.

Wall Lizards

Unique to Ventnor because of its very warm and sunny climate. Dry stone walls were built by volunteers to enable these lizards to continue to live here. Although they bask in the very hot sun near motionless they will suddenly dart out of sight if threatened.
