Shanklin Old Village 4

This picture was taken in Victorian times and clearly shows The Crab Inn looking a bit different then.  The thatched house on the far left is now The Village Inn and the ones on the right are gift shops still thatched today.

The drinking fountain in Victorian times extracted from the picture above, it still looks the same although the extension to The Crab Inn is now directly behind this now.

These pictures came from a Victorian photo album belonging to Lucy Trueman and was kindly supplied by Martin Warner.

This is a close up view of the drinking fountain which lies to the right of The Crab Inn.

"O traveller stay thy weary feet, Drink of this fountain pure and sweet, It flows for rich & poor the same, Then go thy way remembering still, The wayside well beneath the hill, The cup of water in his name"

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 1868
