I took the above picture at Godshill on 21st June, 1951, in Festival of Britain year, using a Kodak Retina 35mm camera, with Kodak panchromatic film.
For those interested in photography, this was among the first Retina cameras (later replaced by the Retina 1 and Retina 2), manufactured in Germany in 1931 and fitted with a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 5cm f/3.5 lens, and a Compur shutter. I used no tripod and this is a natural image except for the pale straw gelatine filter used to darken the blue sky and lighten the stonework. Alas, these Godshill cottages now have a reed thatch, which means that all those glorious criss-cross finishing touches at the edge of the thatch are no longer in evidence.
