I wanted to say that I have found your site lovely and interesting, and the many times that I have visited the Isle of Wight I have never been to some of the places that you have pointed out. My grandparents who both recently passed away, loved the isle of wight, and I only wish they were here to share the journey with me. It is lovely because it is so personal, very well done. Michelle Parker.

Dear Sir/Madam, I’d like to thank you for your really informative website that helped my partner and I have a really lovely weekend in the Isle of Wight this weekend. I didn’t need to look anywhere else to plan a great time; we saw a number of attractions and suggestions that were just as you described. Kind regards, A Holloway

First, can I compliment you on a fantastically useful site. I've spent the last three hours looking through all the different pages when I should have been working! Thank you again for the really helpful reply. All the best with your great web-site. If only there were more sites like this on the web without hidden agenda's, just simply helping people share the best things in our community. Very best wishes, Alex Coombes

Just wanted to thank you for your advice as the day on the IOW was perfect in every way...(as you know the weather on Tuesday was incredible for April!). Your website must represent many hours of work and is far superior to the official tourist and municipal sites, so congratulations, it has been really helpful in planning what to do! Best wishes, Heather

Many thanks for your excellent pages of photos and memories. My first visit to the Island was when I was about 9 I think, way back in 1953 and we came over on the paddle steamer ferry. Since then with fiancee, who became my7 wife and later our three children, we have returned to the Island every year at least once, sometimes four times! and have fantastic memories. Also brought our church choir and Guides a few times. Are these memories of any interest ? Would be pleased to write more if you think they are. Best wishes, Dennis Moor

Hi, I found your web site while searching for St. Catherines, In like yourself, was sent "abroard" when I was eight because of my asthma. It was in 1949 and I have some photos that were taken there. I have recently written about my time there which has renewed my interest, Yours, Ron Jones

Just stumbled across this site whilst looking for something different to do at the weekend. I've almost exhausted weekend entertainment options for my 3-year old little boy. Anyway, I don't think I've ever seen such a comprehensive and well put together site about the Island. Gary

Great website. Loads of useful info. So glad I looked at it! My only comment is it would be useful to have a printable version of the "things to do / attractions" section, rather than have to print off page by page. Thanks

Hi, I too was at St Catherines, during the years of 1956-58. Whilst it all seems a long time ago, the experience has never really left me, and I find myself thinking about those times quite often. Children had no rights then, as they do now. I always thought I was there because my family didn’t want me. Nobody told me I was there because of my health, or that I would, one day, be going home. We only had visitors twice a year and never ever went home. Today, things are so changed. For all that, I had a happy time up there on the hill with the nuns. They were so caring, as were all the staff. I enjoyed school there too. With a view from the classroom of the sea, how could we not enjoy our lessons! Too many years have passed now, but I so wish that I or someone else had initiated a kind of re—union back in the 60’s or 70’s. I remember most of the girls in St Joseph’s House, and a good many of the boys. I did come back to Ventnor in the early 90’s. Many changes at St Catherines!! Not an ‘open air’ school any more. I remember waking with dew on the top blacket, the windows were always open. From my bed, at night, I could see the flash from the Lighthouse. I’ll stop rambling. Norma Doohan

Hi, have just come accross your website and also your comments about the demolishion of the Mill Bay. I aggree with you totally. Now as a matter of interest are you aware that there is a continueing attempt by the owner of Cheeta Marine to build a Boat Factory on the Eastern Esplanade below the Winter gardens,in front of the Cascade waterfall arch and directly alongside the 'Island' paddling pool. I and many other's are totally against both of thes proposals and have registered our objections to the planning authority. You still have time to do the same should you be so inclined. Yours Sincerely Richard Julian.

I used to live in Ventnor for a considerable amount of years.I now live in Godshill.I used to work in the Mill-Bay when a guy called Jim Sladden used to own it.I am absolutely horrified at the thought of what they have got planned for this lovely old pub.Ventnor in my oppinion is gradually going down hill, and this will just add to it.As you rightfully say it does a roaring trade in the summer. It is not if so the building is in a bad state either so why the hell can't they leave things alone.
Regards. Berni Nigh.
HI, I WAS AT ST CATHERINES OPEN AIR SCHOOL FOR 12 MONTHS OR SO AROUND 1947 FOR HEALTH REASONS.. ANY INFO OR PICTURES OF THAT SUBJECT ...THANKS JOHN .

I do not think the Mill Bay should be demolished, or that anyone should have the right to demolish it. We have lost many good buildings in Portsmouth with deep regret. Once gone they can never be replaced, I say no. The main beauty of the island is that it has been unspoilt for so long and I put this down to a caring council. Something, we unfortunately lack in Portsmouth. Andrea

Hi, What a fantastic site! There is so much useful information, whether you're a 'new to the Isle of Wight' a holidaymaker, or like myself 'a seasoned Fan'. I am totally obsessed with the Island. As a teenager I holidayed there with my parents and have been 'Utterly Captivated' by it's Beauty ever since. I have returned as often as possible since then with my own family('tho not nearly as often as I'd like). I have just spent the most enjoyable hour on your site getting thoroughly excited about our next visit in August. Thank You so much, Keep up the good work. Jeanette Mann

Simon, this is a wonderful tribute to such a beautiful Isle. Thank you for "putting" it all together for everyone to enjoy. It's been many years since my last visit to the IOW, but it won't be long before my return this summer. I flew over the IOW on my return to the States, it appeared as lovely even from 10K feet up. LOL Once again, thank you for your website of the Isle of Wight. Sincerely: Mr. Lin Thompson, South Dakota, USA

A very informative site. I'm going to IOW 4th October for 5 days and this site answered a lot of my questions. I've now got a long list of places to visit-top of the list the animal attractions and 2 excursions. I'm wondering if I'll be able to visit all of them!! The bus routes and maps are a very good idea too.
