Erosion and Landslips 3
![]() |
Luccombe cliffs just above the
relocated steps. It is difficult and very steep to reach Luccombe's
secluded beach and one day it may not be possible for people to have
safe access at all.
More information is available about this area in my Luccombe beach section and is also recommended in my beaches guide. |

Facts: There is no government compensation for home owners whose cliff-top homes have to be demolished, and they usually have to pay their own demolition costs. Government policy on erosion has changed from protecting the existing shoreline - to a natural process, allowing the sea to do its own thing. |
Buildings on vulnerable cliff tops cannot be insured against cliff erosion, although some policies may cover landslip. Some insurers will withdraw fire cover, sometimes these rules may apply up to a mile inland. |
