Howden dam in the distance

This was taken half way along the small road that twists and turns between the two dams. The Howden dam is seen in the far distance whilst near the foreground are the remains of railway gantry supports visible when the water is not so high.

This normal gauge Railway delivered stone from Bole Hill Quarry to the site of the dams as well as supplies and workers on a daily basis. This line went into Birchinlee Village or 'Tin Town' as it was better known which was located in the trees on the left in this picture and the outer edges of this temporary town finishing a bit before the Howden dam.
