The Howden dam, May 2007

The Howden dam is around 1.5miles away from the Derwent dam and higher up the valley, the Howden when overflowing {or put on drain} drains and fills the Derwent reservoir which is directly below.

This was taken in May 2007 when the Derwent was at a very low level, in fact this end of its reservoir had dried up and was it possible to walk on what was previously a reservoir. The Howden had been overflowing the day previous to this picture and is very full in the picture, water board staff had let this one fill up whilst the Derwent's water level was dropping.
