View from the East Tower

This is the view from the top of the dam looking in the direction of Fairholmes Visitors centre {not shown}. Most of these surrounding woodlands are conifers ( pine, larch and spruce) with some broadleaved trees such as oak, beech and sycamore.

As some trees are cut for timber, young trees are planted. Conifers are not natural in the Peak District, but they do provide a habitat for some birds of prey and a few smaller birds.
