This is the deep well that is within the castles
keep, it is 160ft deep. It took nearly 5 seconds for a stone when
dropped to reach the bottom! |

English Heritage's flag flies proud from the castle's keep. Do go around the outer walls of the keep and enjoy the views - the height looks scary but in fact the drop from the outer wall is only modest due to the keeps steep outer grass bank. |

Take care on the battlements the inner walls are quite short in places. |
